Mica Flakes -
$2.50
3 x 4 inch bag
Mica is a
mineral that comes in a variety of colors and can be easily
separated into thin transparent sheets. Processed into high
quality white mica into small flakes much like the
"Vintage Mica Snow"of the early 1900's.
In addition to being beautiful, it's non-toxic, tough,
chemically inert, transparent and waterproof. It can also
withstand temperatures of over 1100 degrees!
Pictures above are Examples of Mica Flakes used on projects. Mica
Flakes are used by Doll Makers, Costume Designers, Folk Art
and Primitive Artists, doll house builders, Hang Tag
Artists, and many more!
Many ways to use Mica
Flakes!
For a SOLID look:
Use a mixture of clear white
glue and water (enough to make the glue easy to paint with). Taking an old paint brush paint the area you wish to cover
and then roll the item in the mica. Use your fingers to push
the mica firmly into the glue. As it dries continue to
smooth the flakes flat.
For a FINE MICA FLAKE
or POWDER: Use a blender or food
processor and make it just the size you want.
For
a BRIGHT SNOW effect: Use white paint as the
glue. Then roll the object in the mica flakes or sprinkle
the mica onto the object. Great for pinecones.
For
a MICA SHIMMER: Use a strainer to shake only
the tiny flakes and powder onto your wet (glued, sprayed or
painted) item.

Flakes by Artist David Bruce

Customers looking to purchase Briwax:
The company who was making it has closed and it is no longer
available.
The
good news is Lustra!
It is a fine European hard finishing wax is now available and
has been personally tested and approved by Pam Gracia of "Soft
in the Head" Patterns to be the alternative to Briwax for us
Primitive Doll Makers.
Lustra has a superior sheen, and consistency of quality and
availability over Briwax, and this is coupled with ease of
application. Briwax Golden Oak is replaced with the Old Pine
Lustra and the Dark Oak for the Dark Brown Lustra
Doll Makers use this wax by rubbing it into dolls/fabric with a
cloth. It can be applied to painted fabric and plain fabric. It
can be used as an antique or just to darken the fabric for that
primmed out grungey look. It can make painted cloth look like
leather when buffed. Results are an aged look on primitive and
vintage cloth dolls that your gonna love!
KIWI SHOE POLISH
Listed as a supply in many primitive patterns. KIWI Regular Paste Polish provides a long-lasting, superior staining. To open can...twist the knob on the side and the cap will pop open by leverage.
Available in Brown and Black. 1 1/8 oz. size can.
Walnut
Crystals
We've added a tips sheet and our
new zippered bag has a bonus 1/2 ounce more of Walnut Crystals.
The fabulous walnut ink crystals are another great way to use
on aging/antiquing your primitive dolls! Walnut ink crystals
are derived from the walnut shells and is a very versatile,
water soluble colorant. By purchasing the walnut crystals and
mixing it on your own (you just need warm water for this), you
can make the ink any hue of brown that you want. You can get
more dramatic effects with a more concentrated (darker) solution
of the crystals.

Feed Sacks A beige heavy
homespun muslin, with advertising for the feed company, were used to
ship and store grain, feed and flour products in the early
1900s. The empty sacks found other uses in the home as towels,
linens or clothing, and yes, for making dolls!
This is the
period where dolls were made of feed sacks and stuffed with sawdust,
straw, or rags. These vintage sacks are offered to you by Cloth Doll
Supply of New England as they are available to us from local Antique
Shops.
In the 1930s feed sacks began to appear in a wide
variety of popular colors and prints. Please keep checking back on
this page as we will also be offering the printed feed sack
materials.

Vintage Quilt Pieces
Cutter Quilt pieces, approx. 1
yard (36" x 20") will also vary as to what
we have on hand ...but will be vintage! We look for very faded,
worn, even has cotton stuffing coming out of some of the
squares. For vintage and primitive doll makers, this is a very
sought after vintage fabric to give a new life too. Picture of
doll shown is from a collection of prims where the artist used
this kind of cutter quilt for the dress. Many use squares of
this for their dolls to hold their own "quilt"...also popular
for fabric snowmen.

hi Fran!
Thanks so much for getting my package right out to me, as always I'm delighted
beyond description!
I've bought several things from you on blind trust. And, I've been delighted
and astounded on all occasions. I loved the original stash starter.
Now I've once again discovered that you can find and pick out such fabulous
things, I don't know how you do it! You certainly have sources like no other.
I've spent countless hours on eBay searching for vintage items with which to
fabricate and embellish my dolls, and I still cannot come up with the
wonderful things
you find. I absolutely know that I can purchase from you sight unseen, and I
will not only love it , but it'll be finer that what I can find on my own.
Not to mention the time you save me. AND, your treasures for the most part
have been less expensive than wholesale.
Fran, you have an eye... I can't wait to open the next package of antique
stash starters.
The "Pieces From the Past" you put together for me is far lovelier than I
could've imagined!
I cannot thank you enough for your unparalled quality and attention to detail.
Blessings,
Lynne de Velazquez,
